Betty Smith

Betty Smith (1896-1972) was an American author. She is best known for her semi-autobiographical novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, published in 1943, which became one of the most beloved coming-of-age stories in American literature. The novel has sold millions of copies and was adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film.
