Terms & Conditions

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm a parent or guardian has reviewed these terms on your behalf. Residents of jurisdictions where the minimum digital-services age is higher (for example, 16 in parts of the EU) must meet that local age requirement.

2. Your Account

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your password secure. You may not impersonate another person or use a username that misrepresents who you are. You can delete your account at any time from your account settings; deletion removes your profile, bookmarks, public recommendations, and Goodreads import.

3. Free and Pro Plans

Browsing reading lists, saving bookmarks, posting recommendations, and signing in are free for any account. The AI book recommender is metered:

• ● Free tier. One AI recommendation request per account, plus two bonus requests if you publish your sign-up recommendation publicly. The bonus is one-shot and never resets.
• ● Pro plan. Unlimited AI recommendation requests for $6.99/month or $59.99/year. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any applicable taxes, which will be added at checkout where required.

4. Billing, Renewal, and Cancellation

Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method the recurring fee for the plan you selected (monthly or annual) until you cancel.

You can cancel at any time from your billing page, which opens the Stripe Customer Portal. After cancellation, your Pro features remain active until the end of the current billing period.

5. Refunds

Pro charges (both initial and renewal) are refundable if you request a refund within 48 hours of the payment time. To request a refund, email us at hello@similartobooks.com from the address on your account. After 48 hours, payments are non-refundable, but you can still cancel future renewals at any time.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• ● Submit content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, defamatory, or that infringes another person's rights
• ● Use the Service to spam, scrape, or attempt to circumvent free-tier limits or paywall
• ● Attempt to disrupt the Service, probe for vulnerabilities without prior written consent, or interfere with other users
• ● Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit AI-generated recommendations or other content from the Service

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

7. Your Content

You retain ownership of everything you submit (recommendations, "why" notes, profile information). When you mark a recommendation as public, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and promote that recommendation across the Service (including the public recommendations wall and any future feeds) for as long as you keep it public. Setting a recommendation back to private, or deleting your account, terminates that license going forward.

8. Affiliate Disclosure

We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, the Bookshop.org affiliate program, and the ThriftBooks affiliate program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click an affiliate link and complete a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate revenue does not influence our editorial picks.

9. AI Recommendations

The AI recommender uses Anthropic's Claude model. Recommendations are generated from the book preferences you submit (titles, mood, or filters) and, if you have uploaded one, your Goodreads library. AI-generated text and metadata can contain inaccuracies (wrong publication years, misattributed authors, fabricated titles); we filter against OpenLibrary to remove obvious errors but do not guarantee that every recommendation is correct. Treat AI output as a starting point for your own judgment.

10. Intellectual Property

The Similar To Books name, logo, editorial reading lists, design, and original written content are owned by us. You may not copy or republish them without permission. Book covers, titles, and author names are the property of their respective rights holders and are used here for editorial and discovery purposes.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that recommendations will match your taste, that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-generated content is accurate. Third-party links (booksellers, OpenLibrary, etc.) are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for the content, availability, or pricing of those sites.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Supersparks Apps Ltd and its directors, officers, employees, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or USD $50, whichever is greater.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access without notice if you violate these terms or if continued service would expose us or other users to legal or operational risk. On termination, sections that by their nature should survive (refunds, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) remain in effect.

14. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date and, where appropriate, surfaced in-product before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

15. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the courts located in Vancouver, British Columbia, and you consent to that jurisdiction. Nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection laws of the country in which you reside.
