Boris Pasternak

Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) was a Russian poet and novelist. He is best known for his epic novel Doctor Zhivago, which was banned in the Soviet Union but smuggled abroad and published in 1957. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1958, which he was forced to decline under Soviet pressure.
