Frank Herbert

Frank Herbert (1920-1986) was an American science fiction author best known for Dune, published in 1965, which is widely considered the greatest science fiction novel ever written. Dune won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. The novel has been adapted into multiple films, most recently by Denis Villeneuve.
