Franz Kafka was a German-language Bohemian novelist and short story writer, widely regarded as one of the most significant figures in modern literature. His surreal, existential works including The Metamorphosis, The Trial, and The Castle have profoundly influenced twentieth-century fiction and gave rise to the term "Kafkaesque."
