J.D. Salinger was an American author best known for The Catcher in the Rye, one of the most influential and widely read novels of the twentieth century. His other works, including the Glass family stories in Franny and Zooey and Nine Stories, are celebrated for their intimate portrayal of adolescent alienation and spiritual seeking.
