José Saramago

Jose Saramago (1922-2010) was a Portuguese novelist, poet, and playwright. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1998. His novel Blindness, about a society struck by an epidemic of sudden blindness, is considered his most famous work and was adapted into a film. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Portuguese-language writers of all time.
