An Education in Malice

In 1960s New England, Laura Sheridan arrives at Saint Perpetua's College to study poetry and is paired in a seminar with Carmilla Marcheva, the dangerous prodigy every professor seems half in love with. Their rivalry curdles into obsession across a year of late-night drafting sessions, weekend trips to Carmilla's family estate, and a charismatic professor playing the two students against each other. Gibson reworks the original Carmilla into a college-set gothic, with the vampire premise running underneath the seminar-room scenes and the queer obsession written with the same intensity as the academic rivalry.
