Beautifully Cruel
Tru Beckett is a 27-year-old Boston law student working the night shift at a diner to pay tuition when a stranger steps out of the rain and saves her from a violent attack in the alley. The stranger is Liam Black, head of the Irish mafia in Boston, and he refuses to walk away from her after that night. Liam pursues Tru with the patience of a man who runs an organization built on patience, and Tru pushes back with the spine of a woman who clawed her way out of a working-class childhood and has no plans to lose her future to a man in a tailored coat. Geissinger writes the book in dual POV, letting Liam's confessions of "I am the mafia" land beside Tru's refusal to be impressed by any of it.
