Bittersweet

Mabel Dagmar, a plain scholarship student from a struggling family, is stunned when her beautiful, privileged college roommate Ev Winslow invites her to spend the summer at Winloch, the Winslow family's sprawling estate on Lake Champlain. At first Mabel is dazzled by the cottages, the rituals, and the generations of Winslows who treat the place as their birthright. As the summer wears on, she begins to pull at threads the family would rather she leave alone, uncovering sexual secrets, financial schemes, and deaths that the Winslows' money has always smoothed over.
