Counterfeit
Ava Wong is a Stanford-Law-trained Chinese-American attorney living in San Francisco, on maternity leave with a difficult toddler and a marriage that is fraying. Her college roommate Winnie Fang, a mainland Chinese international student Ava used to look down on, reappears running a counterfeit-handbag smuggling operation that ships near-perfect superfake Birkins and Chanels from Guangzhou to American buyers. Ava agrees to help with returns and shipping logistics, and the book follows her descent into the scheme, framed as a confession Ava delivers to a Los Angeles detective who has finally arrested her.
