Days of Distraction

A twenty-four-year-old Chinese American woman works a poorly paid job at a tech website in the Bay Area, sifting through comment sections and asking for a raise she cannot seem to get. When her white boyfriend, J, is accepted to a graduate program in upstate New York, she leaves her job and her family behind to follow him east. Told in short fragments, notes, and researched asides about interracial marriage and Chinese American history, the novel tracks the slow accumulation of small imbalances inside a loving relationship, and a young woman's effort to locate herself inside it.
