Makepeace is the self-appointed constable of Evangeline, a frozen settlement in eastern Siberia founded by religious climate refugees and long since abandoned by nearly everyone who built it. Patrolling the empty streets day after day, Makepeace has nearly given up when a stranger appears, proof that other people still survive somewhere in the ruined north.
