On the Blackfeet reservation in Montana, the annual Indian Days celebration is interrupted when four teenagers stumble on the body of Loren Arnoux, a girl murdered and left near the festivities. Each of the four is connected to Loren in a way that makes them a suspect, and the book rotates through their perspectives as the investigation closes in. Mara, Brody, Eli, and Loren's own last days are threaded together as secrets surface and alliances shift. Cobell, an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation, sets the mystery against the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, so the whodunit carries the weight of a community that knows how often these cases go unsolved.
