Peachtree Road

In the affluent Buckhead district of Atlanta, cousins Shep and Lucy Bondurant grow up in a grand house on Peachtree Road from the 1940s onward. Shep is shy and bookish, ill-suited to the suave Southern gentleman his family expects; Lucy is a devastating beauty, exuberant and rebellious, who will never become the demure lady her mother and her society demand. Bound by fierce love and deep wounds, the two move through debutante seasons, marriages, and betrayals as Atlanta transforms around them from a genteel old-South town into a booming modern city. Narrated by Shep across four decades, the novel traces Lucy's brilliant, self-destructive path and the price the changing South exacts on them both.
