Pizza Girl

The unnamed narrator is eighteen years old, newly pregnant, and delivering pizzas in suburban Los Angeles while grieving a father whose absence she can barely name. Her devoted boyfriend and steady mother want to build a future with her, but she cannot feel the things she is supposed to feel, and she drifts toward a private fixation. A stay-at-home mother named Jenny keeps ordering pickle-topped pizzas for her picky son, and the narrator turns these deliveries into an escape, projecting onto Jenny a longing she cannot explain. As the pregnancy advances and her drinking quietly worsens, the fantasy tightens its grip. Frazier follows a young woman circling grief, addiction, and coming motherhood through the one attachment that lets her avoid all of it.
