Small Spaces

Eleven-year-old Olivia Adler is grieving her mother's death when she meets a sobbing woman by the river about to throw an old book into the water. Ollie takes the book home and reads about the smiling man who grants wishes for a terrible price. The next day her sixth-grade class takes a field trip to a Vermont farm with cornfields and scarecrows, and when the bus breaks down on the way home, the smiling man's warning starts coming true. Ollie and two classmates, Coco and Brian, run for the small spaces of the farm to hide from the scarecrows that have started walking.
