Temporary
In a slightly altered version of our world, a young woman works as a professional temp, moving from one surreal placement to the next in pursuit of "the steadiness," the mythical permanent position that will finally make her real. She fills in for a pirate captain, a murderer, an assassin's apprentice, a mother, and a man who opens and closes doors, juggling a rotating cast of boyfriends and the ghosts of temps who came before her. Leichter's slim, deadpan fable turns the gig economy into a myth about labor, identity, and the human need to be counted as necessary.
