The Briar Club

At Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in 1950s Washington, D.C., everyone keeps to themselves until the mysterious widow Grace March takes the attic room. Grace's weekly dinners and window-brewed sun tea draw the tenants into unlikely friendship: poised English beauty Fliss, hiding wounds behind a perfect-wife facade, policeman's daughter Nora, tangled up with a gangster, washed-up baseball star Beatrice, and gung-ho Arlene, who has thrown herself into McCarthy's Red Scare. Each woman carries a secret, and Grace carries the most dangerous one of all. When a body turns up in the house, the friendships, the lies, and Grace's hidden past all come to a head against the paranoia of the era.
