The Bridges of Madison County

Francesca Johnson is an Italian-born war bride living a quiet life on a 1965 Iowa farm. When her husband and children leave for four days to show a prize steer at the state fair, a photographer named Robert Kincaid pulls into her lane, lost, looking for one of Madison County's covered bridges. Over the four days that follow, Francesca and Robert fall into a love neither expected and neither will forget. Waller frames the story as a recovered account, pieced together by Francesca's grown children after her death, which gives the brief affair the weight of a whole life reconsidered.
