The Lost Apothecary

In 1791 London, Nella runs a hidden apothecary that dispenses poisons to women desperate to escape abusive husbands, fathers, and employers. She records every transaction in a ledger, certain her work will outlive her. When she takes on twelve-year-old Eliza as an unlikely apprentice, a single mistake threatens to unravel the whole enterprise. Two hundred years later, aspiring historian Caroline Parcewell, reeling from her husband's infidelity, finds a small etched vial while mudlarking on the Thames and begins chasing the story of the long-rumored apothecary killer. The three women's lives braid together across the centuries until a single act of courage links them for good.
