The Railway Children
When their father is taken away without explanation, Roberta, Peter, and Phyllis leave their comfortable London life and move with their mother to Three Chimneys, a small cottage in the Yorkshire countryside beside a railway line. Money is suddenly tight and their father's absence hangs over everything, but the children build a rich new world around the railway, befriending the station porter and an Old Gentleman who rides the train each morning. Across a year of small adventures, averted disasters, and acts of kindness, they slowly uncover the truth about what happened to their father, and their patience and goodness bring the family back together.
