The Spear Cuts Through Water

In the Old Country, an ancient land ruled by the immortal, tyrannical Saint family, a goddess has been kept captive and dying, her power slowly drained to sustain the regime. When she is freed, two men become her unlikely escorts across the country in a desperate few days: Keema, a one-armed outcast soldier, and Jun, a disillusioned guardsman of the very family they must defy. Their journey is framed as a performance in the Inverted Theater, a dream-space built by the Moon, watched by a far-future descendant who carries the story in their blood. Jimenez shifts between first, second, and third person and braids many voices into single moments, telling an intimate road story and a sweeping myth at once.
