The Stationery Shop

In 1953 Tehran, dreamy teenager Roya finds refuge in Mr. Fakhri's neighborhood stationery shop, where she meets Bahman, a young man devoted to justice and to the poetry of Rumi. They fall in love and plan to marry, agreeing to meet in the town square on the eve of their wedding. That day, a coup d'etat erupts in the streets, Bahman never appears, and Roya's letters go unanswered. She moves on to college in California, to another marriage, to a quiet life in New England. More than sixty years later, an accident of fate brings her face to face with Bahman again, and the truth of what happened that day finally surfaces.
