The Yellow House

Sarah M. Broom traces a century of her family through the story of a single shotgun house in New Orleans East, bought by her mother in 1961. The house, lost to Hurricane Katrina, becomes a lens on race, inequality, and the parts of the city tourists never see. Broom braids her own coming-of-age as the youngest of twelve children with the history of a neighborhood the city forgot, asking what home means when the place that held it is gone.
