Too Soon

Too Soon braids the lives of three Palestinian American women across more than six decades. In 1948, Zoya flees Ramallah with her family at the founding of the Israeli state and settles in Detroit, where she builds a comfortable life and a feisty old age. Her daughter Naya, a child when they fled, grows from a rebellious girl into a hesitant, insecure woman who can never shake the fear that her pampered Silicon Valley life could vanish in a moment. Granddaughter Arabella, a thirty-five-year-old New York theater director whose career and love life are stalling, is offered the chance to direct a daring cross-dressing Shakespeare in the West Bank, even as she struggles to choose between two men and two futures. The timelines unspool at different speeds, weeks for Arabella, years and decades for the women before her.
