Watching You

Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, full of restored Victorian houses and respectable families, and almost everyone on the hill is watching someone else. Tom Fitzwilliam, the charismatic head teacher who just moved in, draws stares from a lovestruck teenager and a fragile newlywed convinced she is being followed. Across the road, a young man with a head injury keeps a notebook tracking every neighbor's movements. The novel opens with a stabbing in a kitchen and then circles back, sliding between the watchers until their overlapping obsessions reveal which of them is genuinely a threat and which has simply been misread.
