Well Met
Well Met is Jen DeLuca's 2019 debut, the first in her Renaissance Faire-set Well Met romance series. Emily Parker has spent her late twenties caring for an aging boyfriend who, after recovering, abruptly ended their relationship. Adrift, she moves to the fictional town of Willow Creek, Maryland to help her older sister April, who has been seriously injured in a car accident, and to look after April's teenage daughter Caitlin. To keep Caitlin company, Emily reluctantly volunteers for the town's signature summer event, a meticulously costumed Renaissance Faire run by Simon Graham, a high-school English teacher whose icy attitude toward Emily during planning meetings does not survive his transformation, every Saturday, into the swaggering pirate Captain Blackthorne. DeLuca uses the Faire as both backdrop and metaphor: the costume frees Simon to be the man Emily is slowly falling for, and Emily must decide whether the man under the costume is the same one.
