Wishbone

Ollie and best friend Mia find a strange two-tailed cat in their neighborhood and name him Wishbone. They quickly figure out that whatever they wish for around the cat comes true, but each wish is taken from someone else, and the consequences keep getting worse. A mysterious shadow figure called The Mage starts hunting Wishbone for his power, and Ollie and Mia have to decide which wishes they're willing to undo and which of the people in their lives they're willing to fight a sorcerer to protect. Winans writes the moral spine of the monkey's-paw premise without softening the dread.
