Achilles is living in hiding on the island of Skyros with her lover, Princess Deidamia, and the kallai, the transgender priestesses of Aphrodite who help her medically transition using ancient herblore. When Prince Alaksandu steals Helen from King Menelaos, a prophecy declares that only Achilles can defeat him, and Odysseus and Diomedes arrive to drag her to war. Deane retells the Iliad with the gods walking the earth as real and terrible powers, weaving womanhood, sisterhood, and divinity through a Trojan War that looks nothing like the schoolroom version. The result is a myth that finds the trans woman hidden inside the oldest story of Achilles.
