Yearbook
Yearbook is the comedian Seth Rogen's 2021 essay collection, his first book, written across the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020. Rogen, who grew up in a left-wing Jewish household in Vancouver and broke into comedy in his teens before moving to Los Angeles to write for Judd Apatow, organizes the book around set pieces from his own life: bar mitzvah road trips, the night his stand-up career almost ended in front of an indifferent crowd of Jewish retirees, the long apprenticeship at Freaks and Geeks, the making of Superbad and Pineapple Express, the slow learning curve of becoming a director, and the international incident triggered by his 2014 film The Interview. Rogen writes with a comic's instinct for the unembellished punch line and a surprising amount of warmth toward his parents, his collaborators, and the strangers who have stopped him in airports for two decades. The audiobook, narrated by Rogen with a rotating cast of friends and family, became a bestseller in its own right.
