Wren Calloway

Founding Editor, Similar To Books

Wren Calloway is the founder and editor of Similar To Books. One person builds and maintains every reading list on this site, and every list publishes under this byline.

What the work looks like

A genre label is a weak reason to hand someone a book. Tone, pacing, prose style, and emotional arc are better ones, so the lists here lean on those. The job is to figure out what a reader actually loved about a book, then find the next one that matches on the things that made it work.

Every list meets the same standard before it goes live. Each pick gets a written reason naming what it shares with the source book and at least one way it differs. Claims about awards, sales, or an author's history get checked against publishers, award bodies, and established literary outlets. Lists show the date they were last reviewed, and older lists get another pass as new books come out.

How research happens

Research draws on reading, reader reviews, critic coverage, award lists, and software tools, including AI research assistants for gathering candidates and cross-checking publication details. Nothing publishes without editorial review. The full process lives on the editorial policy page.
