A Sorceress Comes to Call

Fourteen-year-old Cordelia lives under the total control of her mother Evangeline, a sorceress who can seize command of Cordelia's body at will and who rules through a horse with no bones. When Evangeline sets her sights on marrying a wealthy squire to secure their future, she moves the two of them into his home, where the squire's shrewd and unmarried sister quickly senses that something is deeply wrong. What follows is a quiet, dangerous campaign as two women, one young and one middle-aged, work to expose a sorceress who can control minds and turn love into a weapon. Kingfisher reworks the Grimm tale of the Goose Girl into a story about emotional abuse, misogyny, and the women who refuse to let a monster win.
