Gather the Daughters

On a remote island cut off from a ruined mainland, the descendants of ten founding fathers live by the rules of a sacred text called the Our Book. Daughters belong to their fathers until they reach fertility, then they are married, made to bear two children, and expected to take poison once they are no longer useful. Each summer the island's children run wild before the rules close back over them. When a girl claims to have seen something forbidden on the mainland and another begins to question the violence done to the island's women and girls, a quiet rebellion takes shape among the daughters who refuse to accept the life the fathers have written for them.
