Impossible Creatures

Christopher travels to the wild coast of Scotland to stay with his grandfather and discovers a girl named Mal falling out of the sky, kept aloft by a small flying creature. Mal comes from the Archipelago, a cluster of hidden islands protected by a magical barrier where every mythical creature ever imagined still lives, from griffins to dragons to the tiny cloud-dwelling ratatoska. The magic that sustains the Archipelago, called the glimourie, is beginning to fail, and creatures are dying. Christopher and Mal set out across the islands, chased by a ruthless enemy, to find the source of the sickness and save the last refuge of the impossible creatures.
