Mama Day
On Willow Springs, a sea island off the Georgia coast that belongs to no state and appears on no map, Miranda Day, known to everyone as Mama Day, is the last keeper of a conjure tradition running back to an enslaved woman named Sapphira Wade who legend says bought the island and freed her people. Her great-niece Cocoa leaves for New York, marries a young engineer named George who was raised in a city orphanage with no family history of his own, and brings him home to the island. When Cocoa falls under a jealous woman's curse, George has to decide whether he can believe in a power he was never taught to see, and Mama Day's oldest knowledge and his outsider's faith collide with the storm coming off the water.
