Season of Migration to the North

An unnamed narrator returns to his village on the Nile after seven years studying in England, and notices a new arrival, a quiet man named Mustafa Sa'eed who keeps his past hidden. One drunken evening Mustafa breaks down and tells the narrator the full story of his own years in London as a brilliant economics student who seduced and destroyed a series of English women, ending with his trial for murdering his wife. The book is structured as the narrator's slow reckoning with the inheritance Mustafa leaves behind, including a locked room, a widow, and a question about what colonial education does to the colonized.
