Time and Again

Simon "Si" Morley is a New York advertising artist in 1970 when a U.S. Army major recruits him into a secret government project that sends people into the past through deep self-hypnosis and total immersion in a period setting. Si travels to January 1882 and takes up residence in the Dakota apartment overlooking an unchanged stretch of Central Park. There he is drawn into a blackmail conspiracy involving a mysterious letter, and falls in love with Julia Charbonneau, a woman of the era. Finney renders 1882 Manhattan in extraordinary, photograph-illustrated detail, and the novel builds toward the choice Si must make between the woman and century he has come to love and the life he left behind. When the project orders him to alter the past, he weighs the unknowable consequences.
