People We Meet on Vacation
Annual vacations replace the forced roommate setup.
People We Meet on Vacation delivers the same Emily Henry formula that makes Funny Story work: two people who clearly belong together, separated by a misunderstanding they are both too proud or too scared to address. Poppy and Alex have been taking annual summer vacations together for a decade, but a disastrous trip two years ago ended their friendship.
Now Poppy is trying to get Alex to Croatia for one last attempt. Like Funny Story, this novel splits its timeline between the present crisis and flashbacks that reveal how the relationship went sideways.
Both books treat the fake element (fake dating in Funny Story, fake normalcy in People We Meet on Vacation) as a pressure cooker that forces real feelings to the surface. Henry writes both sets of characters with the same emotional precision, giving each person a fully realized interior life that makes the miscommunications feel earned rather than manufactured.
