Odd Thomas
A small desert town replaces a broader fae-adjacent supernatural chase.
Odd Thomas is a short-order cook in a small California desert town who can see the dead. He uses this ability quietly, helping spirits find peace and occasionally preventing violence. When a stranger arrives in town surrounded by shadowy creatures called bodachs, Odd knows something terrible is coming.
Koontz wrote Odd Thomas with more warmth and humor than most of his work, and the character has become his most beloved protagonist. Like Quinn Quicksilver, Odd is a fundamentally decent person with supernatural abilities he did not ask for, navigating a world where dark forces take an interest in him. Both characters face their situations with courage, wit, and the kind of stubborn goodness that makes you root for them.
If you loved Quinn's voice and supernatural predicament, Odd Thomas provides six books of similar quality.
