Deep Work
The approach is individual optimization rather than systemic critique.
Cal Newport's Deep Work argues that the ability to focus without distraction is becoming both rarer and more valuable, and that people who cultivate this skill will dominate their fields. Where Hari diagnoses the attention crisis as a societal problem, Newport treats it as an individual optimization challenge. Both books agree that distraction is the central obstacle of modern knowledge work, but they differ in scope: Hari wants systemic change while Newport offers personal strategies.
Deep Work is more prescriptive than Stolen Focus, providing specific rules and routines for protecting focus time. Newport writes as a computer science professor who practices what he preaches, and his examples tend toward academics and knowledge workers. The two books complement each other perfectly.
Stolen Focus explains why your attention is under attack; Deep Work gives you a battle plan for defending it.
